Meet Pete! Pete is a 4-year-old neutered Beagle with a sweet heart, a happy personality, and a strong love for being near his people. Through no fault of his own, he is now looking for a new home after his previous family experienced a major life change.
Pete is a very sweet, cuddly boy who loves companionship. He likes to be his human’s little shadow and is happiest when he can be part of daily life. Whether you’re moving around the house, relaxing on the couch, or spending time outside, Pete wants to be nearby.
Pete does have a little separation anxiety, but he is not destructive. He simply loves his people and may need a little reassurance as he adjusts. With routine and consistency, Pete does settle down.
He is also learning that his crate can be a safe resting space. Pete doesn’t usually choose to go into the crate on his own yet, but with a little encouragement, he will walk in and calm down. He has been able to nap and sleep overnight in his crate.
Like many Beagles, Pete has energy, curiosity, and a nose that never clocks out! He loves to sniff, explore, and investigate everything happening in the yard. If a person, animal, or interesting scent has passed through, Pete will know about it. He also enjoys chasing and “hunting” little critters in the yard, so a secure outdoor space and supervision are important.
Pete is currently a little overweight and would benefit from an active adopter who can help him shed a few pounds with regular walks, playtime, and measured meals. He’ll do best with someone who can monitor his calorie intake and keep him on a healthy routine — something that will also help him feel more settled and secure.
Pete has done well with other dogs and children and is described as having a very sweet temperament. He knows basic commands, is house-trained, and so far has done well without accidents in his foster home. He can be a little nervous in new settings at first, but overall, Pete is a happy, friendly Beagle who just needs time, routine, and structure to settle in.
Pete will thrive with a family or individual who can give him consistency, daily activity, and plenty of love. He is not looking for chaos — he is looking for a person or family who will help him feel secure and let him be the loyal, cuddly companion he wants to be.
If you’re looking for a sweet, shadow-following, sniff-happy best friend, Pete may be your guy.
