## Meet Mia — Give Her a Little Time, and Meet a Different Dog
**Mia** is a 6-year-old spayed Terrier mix who will turn 7 in December. She has taught us something important about her: **once she feels safe, understands her routine, and knows her people, she is a really great dog.**
Mia thrives on familiarity and structure. The longer she has been with her foster, the more comfortable and settled she has become — and her personality has blossomed along with her.
When Mia was less comfortable, she could become mouthy when she was nervous, overly excited, or trying to initiate play. With her foster today, that behavior is **nonexistent**. She knows her people, understands how they play together, knows what is expected of her, and feels secure in her routine.
That is the Mia we want an adopter to have the opportunity to know.
She is sweet, playful, food-motivated, and loves being part of a predictable household. She is a serious foodie and happily enjoys treats along with dog-safe fruits and vegetables such as carrots, celery, broccoli, strawberries, pineapple, watermelon, and blueberries.
Mia also does very well with housetraining once she understands the schedule and her people recognize her signals. She will sit near the door or whine when she needs to go outside. Give her a consistent routine and pay attention when she asks, and she does great.
Her crate is another important part of that routine. Mia sees it as **her safe place** — somewhere she can relax, nap, and decompress when she wants some quiet time.
Mia does have boundaries, and she needs an adopter willing to respect them. She may be uncomfortable being picked up by someone she does not know, particularly men, so new people should allow her time to become familiar rather than forcing interaction.
She can also become defensive if an unfamiliar, much larger dog rushes into her space with lots of energy. Mia may growl or lunge to tell that dog to back away. She does best when her humans advocate for her space rather than expecting her to greet every unfamiliar dog she encounters.
Mia is also protective of food and high-value treats. She should be allowed to eat without people taking food from her and should be given space from other animals during meals and with special treats or chews.
Because Mia can be more reactive when uncertain, we think she is best suited to a home **without small children** and with someone who has previous dog experience.
Mia may need more time than some dogs when she first arrives in a new home. What we now know, though, is what happens when you give her that time.
**She settles. She learns. She trusts. And the behaviors that once seemed challenging fade away.**
Her foster already gets to live with that version of Mia every day.
We would love for an adopter to finally discover her too.

Mia will be 5 years old in Aug 2022 and is just the sweetest tabby girl. She likes to hang out in the cat tree and soak in the sun, eat treats, and nap. She’s not overly playful with other cats/dogs but loves being petted by her humans and is affectionate. She will talk to you while you are petting her and will brush against your legs or walk in-between your legs for attention. She tolerates other animals but doesn’t mind letting them know if they are too energetic around her.
You don't want to miss out on this sweet young adult.

Stevie and Pepsi are SAFE!!!!!
We saved their lives today.
They are FELV +.
Feline Leukemia means they cannot be around other cats, unless those cats also have it (which is insanely rare due to the frequent euthanasia of FELV + cats in shelters).
These babies are 9 months old and so excited to be loved on 😻
We have lost a lot of lives lately, and we refused to see Stevie and Pepsi die in a shelter.
Thank you to their amazing foster, Brooke, for agreeing to take them on and love them like her own 💜
They will be going to the vet today to figure out the next best steps.
WELCOME STEVIE AND PEPSI!
We are so grateful to be your heroes.
